The University of Ghana has issued a travel advisory restricting all staff and students from travelling to South Africa until further notice, following concerns over increasing reports of xenophobic violence.

In a notice to the university community, authorities urged members of the institution to suspend any planned trips to South Africa as a precautionary measure amid the reported security concerns.

The university also advised students and staff who are already in South Africa to remain vigilant, avoid areas where tensions may be high, and maintain regular communication with the institution and relevant diplomatic missions.

The advisory comes as concerns continue to grow over the safety of foreign nationals in parts of South Africa, where incidents of xenophobic attacks have previously sparked widespread fear and condemnation.

University officials said the safety and well-being of members of the university community remain a priority and that further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
