Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has praised the Ministry of Finance for ongoing reforms aimed at restoring Ghana’s economic stability.
The Vice President made this known after visiting the Ministry, where she met Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Chief Director, directors, and staff as part of her engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
She was briefed on the fiscal challenges inherited by the government and measures being implemented to rebuild the economy, including progress in debt restructuring, repayment of major debt obligations, fiscal discipline measures, and efforts to reduce the budget deficit.
The Ministry also highlighted key reforms such as amendments to the Public Financial Management Act and Public Procurement Act, the Value for Money Act, improved revenue mobilisation, COCOBOD restructuring, and the removal of statutory caps on the National Health Insurance Fund, GETFund, and Road Maintenance Trust Fund.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the Ministry’s leadership and staff, stressing that decisions taken on public finances have a direct impact on the lives of Ghanaians.
She urged continued commitment to prudent financial management, transparency, value addition, and responsible budgeting, noting that significant resources are still being committed to servicing the country’s debt.
The Vice President also expressed appreciation to all staff of the Ministry, including support personnel, for their dedication towards achieving government’s vision of a stronger and more resilient Ghana.
