Accra, July 11, 2026 — The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas has agreed to recruit 300 Ghanaian teachers this year under a new bilateral education cooperation agreement reached during high-level talks between Ghana and The Bahamas.
The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, following his official visit to Nassau, where he represented President John Dramani Mahama at The Bahamas’ 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations.
According to the minister, the agreement was reached after substantive bilateral discussions with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis, who had extended a special invitation to President Mahama to participate in the celebrations.
The deployment of the 300 teachers will constitute the first phase of an expanded education partnership between the two countries and is expected to strengthen The Bahamas’ education sector while creating employment opportunities for qualified Ghanaian teachers.
Mr. Ablakwa also disclosed that Bahamian authorities expressed satisfaction with the performance of Ghanaian nurses already serving in the country under an existing bilateral arrangement, describing their work ethic as exemplary. He said that success had helped pave the way for expanding labour mobility cooperation beyond the health sector.
The Foreign Affairs Minister further highlighted the long-standing historical and ancestral ties between Ghana and The Bahamas, noting that a large proportion of Bahamians trace their ancestry to Ghana.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to pursuing diplomacy that delivers tangible benefits for its citizens through strategic international partnerships.
Ghana also congratulated The Commonwealth of The Bahamas on its 53rd Independence Anniversary and expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral cooperation in education and other areas of mutual interest.
