A Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced Ghanaian TikToker Camilla Alhassan to one year in prison after she pleaded guilty to charges of publishing false news and engaging in offensive conduct.

The conviction follows videos she shared on social media in which she falsely claimed that President John Dramani Mahama buried 32 cows as part of rituals to secure victory in the 2024 general election. Prosecutors said the allegations were baseless and unsupported by any evidence.

Appearing before the court, Alhassan admitted to the offences, after which the court handed down a one-year custodial sentence.

The case highlights Ghana’s efforts to address the spread of false information on social media, particularly content deemed capable of misleading the public or undermining public confidence.
