Wesley Girls’ High School has officially launched its 190th-anniversary celebrations with the unveiling of the commemorative logo under the theme, “Honouring Our Roots, Igniting Tomorrow.” The ceremony marks the beginning of a year-long programme celebrating the school’s nearly two centuries of excellence in girls’ education.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang paid tribute to the pioneering women whose vision and commitment to educating girls laid the foundation for one of Ghana’s most prestigious educational institutions. She noted that, long before gender equality became a widely discussed issue, these trailblazers had already recognised the transformative power of educating women to lead, serve, and positively impact society.

“We are beneficiaries of a future they imagined and nurtured,” she said, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the school’s founders and early supporters.

The Vice President also acknowledged the often-overlooked contributions of the school’s support staff, including drivers, caterers, groundskeepers, cleaners, and administrative personnel, describing their dedication as an integral part of the Wesley Girls’ success story.

As the school marks 190 years of existence, she urged the Wesley Girls’ community to honour the sacrifices and dreams of those who came before them, many of whom were never students of the institution but devoted themselves to creating opportunities for generations of young women.

She further expressed appreciation to the school administration, the 190th Anniversary Planning Committee, and everyone involved in organising the launch, commending their efforts in laying the groundwork for what is expected to be a memorable year of celebrations.

The anniversary is expected to feature a series of activities highlighting Wesley Girls’ High School’s rich history, achievements, and continued contribution to education and national development.
