The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has expanded access to safe drinking water on campus with the commissioning of three automated water dispensing stations designed to provide students and staff with round-the-clock service.
The new facilities, financed entirely by the University’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at a cost of GH¢600,000, operate on a prepaid system. Users can load credit onto the platform and dispense water according to the amount they have purchased, making the process convenient and cashless.
The water stations have been installed at three strategic locations on campus: the Sandwich Lecture Theatre, Parliament House, and the New Lecture Theatre, ensuring easy access for members of the university community.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Denis Aheto described the project as an important investment in student welfare. He noted that the automated system would not only improve access to clean drinking water but also promote convenience through its 24-hour availability.
Prof. Aheto commended the SRC for funding the initiative and appealed to students to use the facilities responsibly and help maintain them to ensure their long-term sustainability.
The introduction of the automated water stations forms part of ongoing efforts to improve essential services on the UCC campus while embracing technology-driven solutions that enhance everyday student life.
