Yesterday, Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang participated in the Conference for Heads of Missions and Orientation for newly appointed envoys of Ghana, where we also launched Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The Programme was hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, and held under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda.”
His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, in his address, charged the new envoys to project an image of Ghana built on economic diplomacy, integrity, professionalism, efficiency, and service. He emphasized that Ghana’s missions abroad must now operate with specific economic targets guided by the newly introduced KPIs, to ensure accountability and measurable outcomes in the pursuit of the Reset Agenda.
He further stressed the philosophy of Afro-Pragmatism as the framework for Ghana’s foreign policy, calling for a relentless pursuit of the national interest while maintaining constructive international partnerships.
It was noted that this cohort of ambassadors and high commissioners will arguably be the most well-prepared in Ghana’s history, as they undergo rigorous training and orientation spanning areas such as economic diplomacy, international etiquette, and practical mission management. This preparation reflects the government’s seriousness in aligning diplomacy with Ghana’s transformation agenda.
